Despite heavy rain on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the club remained committed to service, reinforcing the importance of their mission. The project coincided with the antenatal day for pregnant women at the Primary Health Centre. The cholera sensitization session was highly interactive, with expectant mothers engaging actively and eager to learn and apply the information provided.
The session was facilitated by the club's Vice President, Rotarian (Dr.) Linda C. Obiako, a medical doctor, who educated the women on the prevention and treatment of cholera. President Henshaw further encouraged the women to adhere to simple preventive routines. Following the sensitization, the club distributed 25 kits containing safe-delivery items such as sanitary pads, baby clothes, and other necessities.
The Rotary Club of Abuja, Wuse 2 is dedicated to reaching out to rural communities, making a positive and lasting impact on their lives. The club will continue to identify emerging needs and provide support, showcasing the benevolence of Rotary International. The club extends its gratitude to Assistant Governor Rtn. Kenneth Iwuchukwu, affirming that the project aligns with Rotary's focus on maternal and child health.
The overall aim was to provide vital information about cholera outbreaks and basic support to expectant mothers and newborns. The District Chair of Maternal and Child Health for District 9127, Rotarian Lovina Okorn, emphasized Rotary’s commitment to reducing infant and maternal mortality rates by 25% over the next three years.
